Asian Current Events
Lately there has been an escalation of tensions between North Korea, South Korea, the United States, and Japan that began following North Korea's launch of its nuclear testing. The president of North Korea, Kim Jong-un, is suggesting imminent attacks on South Korea and the United States with nuclear weapons. Nuclear testing is being done to catch the attention South Korea because they believe the US and South Korea are plotting nuclear attacks against them. The projectiles fired by North Korea have similar trajectories. In Washington, Pentagon press secretary George Little said Monday the Obama administration does not consider the short-range launches a sign of renewed tensions. Although North Korea has a variety of weapons, the government believes they have not yet reached the level of technology and weaponry that the US obtains.
The split Korea is similar to that of The Little Red Book. This book was written by a famous communist leader named Mao. It included over 200 of his quotes and thoughts, it was an unwritten law that every Chinese citizen was forced to own and bring it everywhere with them. Mao forced his rule on people like the government forced communism on the people leading to the split of Korea. However Mao’s authority did not cause the creation of a new party, people began thinking of Mao as a supernatural being, or a god. North and South Korea are not at peace, but not at war. They continue to disagree and threaten one another. People in Asia still worship Mao despite the many issues he had cause (mainly the famine that many people died from). In both of these events the government enforced ideas that permanently changed these nations forever.
